LYL wins energy price cap vote

London Young Labour has won a vote at the Greater London Labour Party (GLLP) Biennial Conference calling on London's Labour MPs to lobby the Government to give energy regulators the power to cap retail gas and electricity prices.

LYL Chair, Tom Copley, said during the debate: "When gas and electricity companies abuse their right to set retail energy prices we must take action. We must take action to protect those who Labour has always looked out for: the poorest and most vulnerable in our society.

"We shouldn't do this for ideological reasons, or to punish energy companies, but because it is the right things to do when so many people are struggling to pay their energy bills."

Energy price caps will now be part of official GLLP policy.
